CARE home boss Wendy Waddicor has completed a London to Paris cycle ride in aid of the Alzheimer’s Society – raising more than £7,500.

The gruelling 340-mile challenge saw Wendy set off in a peloton of more than 130 riders, who collectively raised more than £270,000 in sponsorship for the charity.

Wendy has spent the last nine months fundraising with help from colleagues at the Hill Care Group, based in Chesterfield.

As Managing Director of the care homes company, Wendy inspired staff, residents, friends and family to join in and complete their own cycling challenges.

Many of the group’s homes challenged themselves to cover the same distance as Wendy but on static bikes in a single day.

The homes also organised cake sales and supermarket bag packs to help hit and far exceed Wendy’s original £5,000 target.

She plans to continue fundraising for the Alzheimer’s Society by collecting donations until September.

The Hill Care Group has also committed to training 250 dementia friends – having already put 180 staff and visitors through the Alzheimer’s Society programme.

After arriving back at the Hill Care head office in Chesterfield, Wendy said: “I’m so proud of the amount we raised for the Alzheimer’s Society.

“£7,500 is an amazing amount of money and everyone who participated in our fundraising activities over the past year should be very proud as well.

“To think it has contributed to a group total of more than £270,000 by all those who took part in the London to Paris ride is just incredible.”

The Alzheimer’s Society organised challenge took place between 19th and 23rd July, finishing at the Champs-Élysées in time for the live finish of the Tour de France.
