Home Press Releases Sunflowers bloom at care home as summer comes to an end
GIANT sunflowers have bloomed in a Middlesbrough care home garden – bringing sunny smiles to residents’ faces as summer comes to a close.
The two-metre tall plants have astounded the elderly residents and staff, after they planted seeds in the spring and many failed to survive.
Three towering sunflowers have recently flowered, however, much to the disbelief of those who planted them.
Cath Taylor, activities coordinator at The Gables Care Home, Highfield Road, said: “Residents love to work in the garden but we’ve never grown anything from seed before.
“Everyone was delighted to see the little seedlings start to grow. No one can believe the giant sunflowers in the garden could have come out of a tiny seed.”
