ELDERLY residents enjoyed romance in retirement at The Beeches Care Home in Stockton-on-Tees this Valentine’s Day.

The home held a romantic supper for residents, who share almost 180 years of marriage between them.

Norma and Eric Simpson have been married for almost 65 years, having tied the knot in May 1952.

They were joined by fellow residents Shirley and Ray Townsend, married in August 1957, and George and Marguerite Braithwaite, married in July 1962.

The couples enjoyed a menu of mushroom soup, followed by mince beef, Yorkshire pudding and vegetables, and a dessert of mandarin flan and chocolate hearts.

Helen Wood, home manager at The Beeches Care Home, on Green Lane, Newtown, said: “Valentine’s Day is a special time of year for many couples, including our residents.

“Many have been together for 50 or 60 years, so we wanted to help them celebrate with a romantic meal, freshly prepared at the home.”
