Memorable Dignity Action Day for Hill Care homes

A DIGNITY tree, 1950s party, memory boards, singing and pampering have all helped Hill Care Group homes celebrate Dignity Action Day – Dignity in Care.

The activities took place at homes across the north, as residents were provided with a memorable day to mark the national event.

At Rotherham’s Broadacres Care Home, a dignity tree was adorned with messages of what dignity means to both the residents and staff.

They were installed on a tree in the garden as a symbol of the staff’s commitment and the residents’ expectations of the care provided at the home.

In Newcastle, residents at Waverley Lodge Care Home made collages of their favourite memories, from traveling the world to being a lifelong fan of Newcastle United FC.

At Mandale House Care Home, in Thornaby, Stockton-on-Tees, a dementia friendly singer songwriter provided entertainment and an interactive music session.

The home also held a coffee morning, with support from their local Sainsbury’s store, which donated cakes, tea and coffee.

Barnfield Care Home, in Chesterfield, held a pamper day, when staff and residents were treated to beauty therapy treatments including hair, make-up and nails.

Even maintenance man Steven Furniss got a stylish haircut from a local hairdresser on hand for the day.

At Springbank House Care Home, also in Chesterfield, a 1950s-themed USA party was held.

Residents and staff dressed in period clothing, created a cardboard Studebaker automobile, enjoyed diner style hotdogs and sundaes and listened to classic rock ’n’ roll music.

More than two dozen Hill Care homes took part in activities for Dignity Action Day – Dignity in Care in total.
