Eden’s visit to care home after fundraiser for cancer treatment

SEVEN-year-old Eden Smith paid a visit to a Kirklees care home to thank residents and staff for raising funds for her cancer treatment abroad.

The youngster wanted to thank those at Aden View Care Home, on Perseverance Street, Primrose Hill, Huddersfield, personally after their pink party raised almost £1,100.

Over £280 was donated by staff and residents and the remainder came from various games, including a raffle and tombola, organised by Michelle Bevan, mother of the care home’s manager.

The money will go towards the £300,000 required for Eden to receive treatment in the USA.

Kim Mckay, home manager at Aden View Care Home, said: “Little Eden came to the home to say a massive thank you to my mum Michelle and the staff at Aden View.

“We were so happy to get such a personal visit from Eden. She made everyone’s day.”

“We wish you all the love in the world, Eden, and thank you for your visit.”

The pink party at Aden View Care Home saw cooks Julie Sykes and Lynn Preston prepare an array of party food, including a pink birthday cake.

Staff and residents all gathered to sing happy birthday to Eden as they joined in the wider fundraising efforts that took place across Kirklees in April.

Kim said: “It is so important that as much money as possible is raised for Eden’s fight against cancer, as it will go towards the treatment she needs.

“Everyone at the care home wanted to do their bit and join in with the rest of Kirklees for the fundraising day. We’re so pleased to see she is getting close to her target of £300,000.”

Eden was diagnosed with neuroblastoma, an aggressive childhood cancer, in April 2021 and is currently undergoing treatment.

Eden’s family are fundraising to gain access to the bivalent vaccine clinical trial in New York, to help stop the cancer returning.
