A CARE home maintenance man has won Best in Class at Derbyshire car show with his pride and joy – a 1953 Morris Z Van.

Keith Thomas, who works at Burton Closes Hall Care Home in Bakewell, took his classic car to The Cromford Steam Rally, at High Acres Farm, Brackenfield.

He was awarded the Chairman’s Trophy for Best in Class, after purchasing the Z Van six years ago and restoring it from a wreck.

Keith has previously displayed the vehicle at Burton Closes Hall for the residents, staff and visitors.

As a member of a classic car club, he arranged for friends to bring an Austin 7, Ford Consul, Ford Prefect, Wolseley, Austin 10 and more to the home, on Haddon Road.

He said: “I was surprised to win Best in Class but immensely proud when I received the award.”
