Ducks and coffee for care home’s Children in Need fundraiser

A QUACKING day was had for Children in Need at a Chester-le-Street Care Home – with a duck race and coffee morning raising funds for the charity.

Staff and visitors at Pelton Grange Care Home, on Front Street, Pelton, placed bets on the annual Children in Need duck race sweepstake.

They each picked a different duck and paid £2 ahead of the live broadcast on Facebook, when James Pond took the win, followed by Lucky Ducky and Fowl Play.

They also held a coffee morning for visitors, taking donations for hot drinks and cakes, helping the home to raise £80 for the charity.

Staff and residents dressed in Pudsey clothing for the day and had the mascot’s iconic white polka dot bandana painted over the right-hand side of their faces.

Resident Dennis Fullerton said: “I thought I looked like a pirate.”

Entertainer Phil Corrigan performed for residents and staff during the fundraising activities, with residents joining in for duets of Elton John songs.

Christopher Hogan-Hind, home manager at Pelton Grange Care Home, said: “Residents, family and staff members enjoyed a brilliant Children in Need day.

“A big thank you goes to the family members and visitors who joined us for the day and helped us raise an amazing amount for the charity.”
