A CARE home café and tea room have been renamed in remembrance of two staff members who sadly passed away.

Maureen Edge and Luba Seals both worked at Lever Edge Care Home, in Bolton, before they suddenly passed away within 12 months of each other.

Luba, a domestic worker, was at the home for eight years. Maureen, a care assistant, had worked at the home for nine months.

Care assistant Elizabeth Roberts wanted to do something to remember her colleagues and friends, having known both since school – more than 43 years.

She approached Hill Care Group regional manager Sophie Gardener, who came up with the idea of renaming two of the home’s facilities after their late colleagues.

With support from relatives and fellow staff members, the home’s tea room was renamed Maureen’s Tea Shop, and the café to Luba’s Railway Café.

A special ceremony was held to officially open the newly renamed facilities, attended by Maureen and Luba’s families, which included setting off balloon’s in the home’s garden.

Liz said: “It’s amazing to have these areas dedicated in remembrance of these two hard working staff

“Coming to work was quite difficult and upsetting at first but having these now feels like there is a piece of them both still here.

“It’s also proven really comforting for the family of both, who are still visitors to the home.”
