CARE homes across the north have been creating tasty treats for a National Cupcake Week competition.

Two homes were named joint winners in the Hill Care Group organised contest, which saw dozens taking part.

Aaron Crest Care Home, in Skelmersdale, and Ingleby Care Home, in Stockton-on-Tees, shared the cupcake crown and were awarded £100 each.

Runners up Halton View Care Home, in Widnes, and Aden Court Care Home, Huddersfield, received £50 each.

Joint winner Aaron Crest created a giant chocolate cupcake as their centerpiece for a dignitary filled afternoon tea party.

Guests included The Mayor of West Lancashire Noel Delaney and Mayoress Bernadette Green, councillors Maureen Nixon, Claire Cooper and Ron Cooper, and Marj and Paul Ridgley from Skelmersdale Pulse.

Ingleby Care Home’s cupcake creations were themed on the home’s garden, as chosen by the residents.

The memorial rose garden, carrot patch and wild flower beds all influenced the designs. 82-year-old Shirley Naylor chose a lemon top flavor for the final cake.

Wendy Waddicor, managing director of the Hill Care Group, said: “Thank you to all the homes that took part in the Hill Care National Cupcake Competition.

“The standards for this were once again very high. It was great to see plenty of resident involvement and visits from the local community healthcare professionals and even local dignitaries.

“Congratulations goes to Aaron Crest and Ingleby care homes for coming in as joint winners as well as Halton View and Aden Court for being runners up.”
