Leg wax raises hundreds for Hebburn food bank

HUNDREDS of pounds have been raised for a Hebburn food bank after a care home manager lost his leg hair to say thank you.

Christopher Hogan-Hind, the home manager at Willowdene Care Home, on Victoria Road West, underwent a leg wax to support Hebburn Helps.

The community food bank and crisis response team had presented every resident at the home with Christmas presents in 2021 – so Chris wanted to do something in return.

He volunteered to get his legs waxed, with the help of beautician Samantha White, assisted by residents Margaret Branch, 90, and Jen Back, 74.

During the waxing, Jen said: “Look at those legs, smooth as a baby’s bottom.”

The event raised over £500, which was presented to Angie Comerford, from Hebburn Helps.

Chris said: “It was nice to give back to such a worthy cause. The support they have provided Willowdene and the local community, especially over the last two years, has been astonishing.

“I thought the leg wax would be a good idea to raise money while getting the residents involved in the activity.

“Samantha was very professional about it and she did a fantastic job with her helpers, Margaret and Jen, who were giggling like school girls the entire time.”

Angie said: “Oh my lord, this isn’t something we were expecting, but we’re beyond chuffed, especially as we’re about to start our packed lunch scheme again.

“Words cannot express what this means for us. We’re so happy about this and you have made such a difference to the task we have ahead of us.”
