A CARE home company has so far raised over £7,000 for the Stroke Association – with fundraising activities ongoing across the north of England.

The Hill Care Group, which is based in Chesterfield, Derbyshire, chose the Stroke Association as their charity of the year for 2018/19.

Alongside the head office, the company’s 38 care homes in Derbyshire, Yorkshire, Lancashire, the North West and North East have all run fund raising events.

They included car washes, sponsored walks, bike rides and runs, coffee mornings, bake sales, supermarket bag packs and collections, raffles and more.

Many homes also took part in the charity’s national Purple Day, which saw staff, residents and visitors dress in purple for the day for a small donation.

The group has so far raised a total of £7,092.06, which will all go towards preventing stroke, supporting those who have been touched by stroke and funding research.

Wendy Waddicor, managing director of the Hill Care Group, said: “I am so proud of everyone’s fundraising and the amount we have raised for the Stroke Association so far.

“Hundreds of staff, residents, family member, friends and volunteers have taken part in activities throughout the year and I can’t thank them enough for their generosity.

“The Stroke Association is a charity close to us all at Hill Care, as the largest number of people who have strokes are aged over 55, with the risk increasing as you get older.”

Jo Beverley, regional fundraiser at the Stroke Association, said: “Every year, thousands of people have to cope with the physical and emotional impact of stroke.

“We’re incredibly grateful to the Hill Care Group for supporting the Stroke Association and raising such an amazing amount of funds this year.

“The money raised will truly go a long way in helping stroke survivors make their best possible recovery.”
