THE JOLLY Roger flew high at a Northumberland care home during International Talk Like a Pirate Day.

Staff and residents at The Oaks Care Home, in Blyth, dressed the part in eye patches, bandannas, waistcoats, frilly shirts and wielding cutlasses.

Hit Disney movie Pirates Of The Caribbean was shown in the home’s lounge, while residents swigged rum and cokes.

Resident Elsie Patterson said: “The staff looked hilarious but good.”

Fellow resident Carol Burdikin said: “The staff are funny and crazy. They do cheer us up.”

Angela Hedley, activities coordinator at The Oaks Care Home, on Durban Street, said: “Everyone had a fun afternoon pretending to be pirates.

“The residents and staff had a good laugh greeting each other with ‘Ahoy’ and yelling the odd ‘Avast’ and ‘Arrr’.”
