Storytelling youngsters visit care home on Read a Book Day

NATIONAL Read a Book Day saw youngsters sharing their favourite stories with elderly care home residents in Chesterfield.

The young readers, aged between three and seven years old, are all grandchildren of Barnfield Care Home manager Alison Riley.

Alison invited her family to the home to entertain residents with books including Hansel and Gretel and Incy Wincy Spider.

The pupils of Model Village Primary School, Shirebrook, sat down to read with the elderly residents alongside others around the country celebrating the national day.

Participants were encouraged to spend the day with a book and share their experiences on social media with hashtag #ReadABookDay.

Alison said: “Everyone in our family enjoys a good book, including our youngest members, Ellie, Riley, Olivia, Tilly and Laura.

“National Read a Book Day was a good opportunity to invite the children in to share their favourite stories with our residents.

“Both the youngsters and the residents thoroughly enjoyed themselves.”
