GREEN fingered residents and staff at a County Durham care home have received an award for their gardening.

Pelton Grange Care Home, on Front Street, Pelton, received a silver award in village’s In Bloom competition.

They were runners up in the category of Best School, Community Building or Business Frontage after the gardening efforts of staff and residents during the summer months.

Residents Catherine Wright and Robert Kennedy attended the judging ceremony with activities coordinator Suzanne Pratt and staff member Tracy Craig.

Fellow resident Hazel Copeland said: “We came second but it feels like first.”

Suzanne said: “We were delighted to received a silver award from Pelton Parish Council for all our hard work in our garden this summer. The residents were honoured and everyone at Pelton Grange was delighted to receive the award.”

Cllr Danny Wood, chair of Pelton Parish Council, visited Pelton Grange Care Home to present their second-place certificate.

He said: “We are delighted Pelton Grange Care Home entered the first Pelton Parish Neighbourhood in Bloom Competition.

“We’re really pleased they were awarded a Silver Gilt Award and were runners up in the category of Best School, Community Building or Business Frontage. Hopefully, they will be entering next year and will achieve a Gold Award.”
