Peterlee care home marks Wear It Pink Day

A PARADE of pink at a Peterlee care home marked Wear It Pink Day – which raises awareness and funds to battle breast cancer.

Bannatyne Lodge Care Home’s staff and residents all wore an item of pink clothing in support of the charity.

A photo booth was set up to get snapshots of their bright outfits and fancy dress, including bracelets and necklaces created especially for the day.

Entertainer Pat Greensmith, who performs under the stage name Chyrelle Addams, spoke about her shock breast cancer diagnosis at the event.

Pat performs across the North East, specialising in 60s music through to modern pop songs.

In 2007, she set up the Chyrelle Addams Cancer Support Trust after learning of a tumour in her left breast.

With support from the clubs where Pat performs, the charity raises funds to buy hospital equipment and has established a community centre to help others with cancer and their families.

Pat provided advice and guidance to the residents and staff at Bannatyne Lodge Care Home, on Manor Way, Peterlee.

She explained women over 70 do not receive reminders to have mammograms but they are still entitled. These can be arranged by contacting the local breast screening unit.

Dawn Minto, activities coordinator at Bannatyne Lodge Care Home, said: “Supporting the search for a cure for breast cancer is a cause close to our hearts.

“Residents enjoyed the talk Pat gave from her own experience. They were also very impressed all of Pat’s fundraising goes to the local community.

“We’d like to thank Pat for visiting and for everyone who donated and helped us raise £52 for Wear it Pink Day.”

Wear it Pink Day is the flagship fundraising event for Breast Cancer Now and takes place on Friday, 20th October.
