National Beer Day celebrated by Teesside care home residents

BEER Day saw Teesside care home residents enjoying a taste of the nation’s favourite tipple while singing and dancing to karaoke.

Several care homes across the region took part in the national celebration, with an afternoon’s entertainment organised at Myton House Farm, in Stockton-on-Tees.

Residents from Mandale House Care Home, Thornaby, Ingleby Care Home, Ingleby Barwick, and The Beeches Care Home, Newtown, all took part.

They were treated to a two-course meal and a taste of different beers as part of the celebration.

Entertainer Steven Swales provided a karaoke machine, so residents and staff could sing and dance along to their favourite musicians, including Elvis Presley, among others.

James Hazlett, a resident at Mandale House Care Home, said: “The food was delicious I’d like to come back. It’s been nice meeting new people and I’ve enjoyed the music.”

Sarah Robinson, activities coordinator at Mandale House Care Home, helped organise the event.

She said: “It was nice to team up with our sister homes to bring many from our community together to celebrate a fun day.

“The Myton House Farm were great hosts and I would recommend them to everyone.

“It’s important to ensure we encourage our residents to get out into the community and still live as much of their lives they led before.”
