FISH and chips is not traditional Christmas cuisine but that didn’t stop Teesside care home residents.

Crackers and paper hats accompanied a slap-up fish lunch at Stockton-on-Tees chippy Barnacles.

The restaurant invited residents from The Beeches Care Home, in Newtown, and Mandale House Care Home, Thornaby, for the festive feast.

Their fish and chips was followed by ice cream and all accompanied by pots of tea.

Amy Trattles, activities coordinator at The Beeches, on Green Lane, said: “The residents were excited to go for a fish lunch. They really enjoyed talking to the residents from Mandale House too.”

Sarah Robinson, activities coordinator for Mandale House, on Acklam Road, Thornaby, said: “Who doesn’t like fish and chips on a winter’s day?

“It was lovely to see the residents making friends with those from The Beeches.”
