THE LAST SUPPER has been recreated by Bolton care home staff and residents for an art competition – naming their interpretation “The Last Isolation”.

Leonardo da Vinci’s masterpiece was the inspiration for the winning picture from Lever Edge Care Home, on Lever Edge Lane, Great Lever, Bolton.

In their modern reimagining, staff and residents are wearing face masks and instead of food and wine on the table, as in the original, there is personal protective equipment (PPE).

The idea for the photo came from home manager Lisa Martin and activities coordinator Alix Isherwood, who wanted to reflect the worldwide fight against Covid-19.

The photo won first place and £150 in a competition organised by the Hill Care Group, which operates the home.

Lisa said: “Everyone wanted to do something to reflect the current situation and restrictions due to Covid-19.

“I came up with the idea of The Last Supper and we bounced it around the team. Alix came up with the title, The Last Isolation, and everyone gave ideas on the PPE.

“We really enjoyed it and it was a struggle to pick the staff and residents to be involved as everyone wanted to join in.

“The residents all think it’s great. The staff are made up it came out so well. It was a lot of fun and we’re all very competitive, so we wanted to win.

“Due to restrictions on visitors to the home, the prize money will be put towards a pantomime staff will be performing, and other entertainment for our residents.”

Hill Care operations director Mandy Vernon was on the judging panel for the competition, which involved the group’s 36 homes across the north.

She said: “We had fantastic entries from all our homes. The creativity on show was incredible, as works of art from all genres and ages were recreated. A lot of fun was had by residents and staff and it was difficult to pick a final winner.

“In the end, we chose Lever Edge Care Home for their interpretation of Leonardo da Vinci’s The Last Supper. We thought the photo was a clever, modern twist and representative of these current times.

“Our congratulations go to the staff and residents as well as all those who entered and took part.”
