A CHRISTMAS miracle took place at a Teesside care home when a previously bedbound resident got up to sing Three Times a Lady.

Vera Huitson, 94, spent her first six weeks at Ingleby Care Home, on Lamb Lane, Ingleby Barwick, being cared for in bed.

She didn’t talk or interact with the other residents but has since become the life and soul of the home’s activities and celebrations.

Despite struggling with her mobility, she was determined to join entertainer Norman Thompson for a rendition of the classic Commodores song at the Christmas party.

Supported by care staff, she stood in front of residents, staff and visitors in the home’s lounge to sing along, remembering every word.

Vera said: “Norman is definitely on my Christmas card list now. He was such a gentleman. And to let me get up and sing with him was so nice.

“I was determined to make sure I got up and danced because I love dancing.

“I really like staying at Ingleby Care Home because I have people to talk to and ‘m not on my own.”

Kirsty Walsh, activities coordinator at Ingleby Care Home, said: “Vera’s family are seeing it as a Christmas miracle that she got up to sing.

“It was such an emotional moment for everyone at the home and she sang beautifully. She had several staff members in tears.

“Norman was brilliant and he always loves entertaining the residents at the home, as many sing along and get up for a dance.”
