A CHARITY bag pack at a Barnsley supermarket has raised hundreds of pounds for the Alzheimer’s Society.

Staff from Deangate Care Home, in Mapplewell, spent the day on the checkouts at Morrisons helping customers with their packing.

Generous shoppers donated a total of £428.68 – with all proceeds going towards research and support for those living with dementia.

The funds add to a year-long campaign for the Alzheimer’s Society by the Hill Care Group, which operates Deangate Care Home.

Homes across the north of England have raised over £8,000 so far – with ongoing fundraising activities taking place until September.

The campaign began when Hill Care managing director Wendy Waddicor announced her plan to cycle over 340-miles from London to Paris in aid of the charity, which she has now completed.

Wendy, staff from Deangate Care Home and volunteer Summer Dockerty all took part in the supermarket bag pack.

Johnny Edwards, home manager, said: “The Morrisons bag pack was a huge success and our thanks go to the supermarket for having us.

“We’d also like to thank volunteers Summer and Mark, as well as Wendy and the rest of the Hill Care team for helping out.

“Adding the group’s total and taking us over the £8,000 mark is a huge accomplishment and the money goes to a cause that means so much to us – as many of our homes, including Deangate, provide specialist residential dementia care.

“I’d like to thank all those generous shoppers who donated and helped us reach this amazing milestone.”

The Hill Care Group is continuing to raise funds for the Alzheimer’s Society. If you would like to donate visit www.justgiving.com/fundraising/wendy-waddicor.
