Stories bring young and elderly Barnsley bookworms together

BRIGHT young bookworms from Barnsley have been entertaining the elderly with their favourite stories.

Pupils from Darton Primary School paid a visit to residents living at Deangate Care Home both in Mapplewell, for National Storytelling Week.

The six to 10-year olds took along their favourite books to read to those living at the home, who joined in with the storytelling.

Julia Chambers, home manager at Deangate Care Home, on Towngate, said: “The residents thoroughly enjoyed their time with the children and reading with them.

“When it came time for them to leave, the residents all clapped to say a huge thank you, with many asking them to come again in future.

“Activities like National Storytelling Week are a great way to bring the local community together, from our youngsters to our elderly.”
