A COURTYARD has been transformed at The Laurels and The Limes Care Home by volunteers from the Sheffield Wednesday FC National Citizenship Service (NCS).

The charitable teens have given a new lease of life to the previously redundant area of the home, adding bird feeders, seating, a colourful mural and plants.

Twelve volunteers, all aged 16, spent a week at The Laurels and The Limes, on Manchester Road, carrying out the work and spending time with the residents.

They also raised over £130 to purchase a new karaoke machine for the keen elderly singers living at the home.

A talent show organised by the NCS group gave both the residents and volunteers a turn at the microphone.

The Sheffield Wednesday NCS has spent time at the home previously, entertaining residents and building raised flower beds for the sensory garden.

Claire Brown, activity coordinator at The Laurels and The Limes, said: “Our residents thoroughly enjoyed chatting to the young people. Having them around has lifted everyone’s spirits.

“The Sheffield Wednesday FC NCS is a very worthwhile organisation and the work it has done at the home has been great. The volunteers have been a big help and we can’t wait to have them back again in future.”
